International Training Workshop for InnovativeTraining on Intelligent City and Big Data in Urban Planning

October 23rd to 27th, Tongji, Shanghai


The International Training Workshop for InnovativeTraining on Intelligent City and Big Data in Urban Planning is organized byIKCEST and Tongji University. The theme of training is ‘What is the City IQ of your hometown?’. Students who are interested in intelligent city and big data inurban planning are welcomed.


The Basic Information

1. WORKSHOP SCALE

24 trainees, who will be divided into 6 groups


2. LANGUAGE

The training workshop will be conducted in English


3. PROGRAMME CONTENTS

  • Introduction of IKCEST

  • Introduction of intelligent city

  • Introduction of City IQ and its application, training the skills of City IQ

  • State-of-Art techniques of intelligent city and urban planning

  • Big data mining technology and its Application: Past and Future, Opportunities and Challenges

  • Best practice of intelligent cities in the world

  • Challenges and opportunities for intelligent cities


4. HOW TO REGISTER

  • Complete online registration on the IKCEST website (http://icity.ikcest.org/user/login/)

  • We will check all the application forms from time to time,  you may be required to take a telephone interview during this period

      


5. REQUIREMENTS

  • Trainees must attend all the lectures, workshop discussions and required activities in Oct 2019. 

  • Trainees must complete all exams and assessments on the IKCEST website on time (http://www.ikcest.org/)


6. WORKSHOP TRAINING FEE

Free of charge


7. REWARDS

  • Upon completion of training workshop, participants will be awarded a certificate issued by IKCEST.

  • Excellent performers can conduct field trips to the world's leading intelligent city practice projects.

9.WHAT IS IKCEST?

The International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology (shortened as IKCEST) is a category 2 centerunder the auspices ofthe UNESCO. IKCEST was established on June 2nd, 2014. The Chinese Academy of Engineering is responsible for the operation and management of  IKCEST.

Brief  Introduction of Lecturers

Prof. Wu Zhiqiang

Prof. WU Zhiqiang is Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Academician of German Academy ofScience and Engineering (acatech), Academician of Royal Swedish Academy ofEngineering Science and Honorary Fellow of American Institute of Architects(Hon. FAIA). Prof. WU serves as Vice President of TONGJI University, Co-Chairof International Steering Committee of World Planning School Congress,Permanent Member of UNESCO-UIA (International Union of Architects) , Member ofAdvisory Committee - Creative Economy-United Nations Special Unit forSouth-South Cooperation, UNDP, National Master of Engineering Survey and Design.

As Vice President ofUrban Planning Society of China, Vice President of China Association ofBuilding Energy Efficiency, Vice President of China Green Building Council,Prof. WU is the most influential academic figure in the field of urbanizationstudy and urban planning.

Prof. Wu is Chief Plannerof World EXPO Shanghai 2010 and Qingdao World Horticultural Exhibition 2014 andthe Chief Planner of the Earthquake Placement Plan in Sichuan as well.Currently Prof. WU is appointed as the chief planner of urban design conceptfor the sub-center of in Beijing.

Prof. Otthein Herzog

Fellow of acatech and Fellow of GI (German National Computer Society).

Dr. Herzog worked with IBM Germany from 1977-1993 in the field of  software development and research. From 1993-2009, he served as Chaired Professor for Artificial Intelligence in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, University Bremen, Germany, heading the Artificial Intelligence Research Group. In 1995, he founded and directed the TZI - Centre for Computing and Communication Technologies with 160 full-time researchers in 2009. Since 1998, he was affiliate professor at the George Mason University, Machine Learning and Inference Laboratory. Since 2010 he is the Wisdom Professor of Visual Information Technologies at Jacobs University Bremen. Since 2015, he is Summit Professor of Artificial Intelligence for Urban Planning at the CIUC, Tongji University, Shanghai. He is also a member of the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Strategy Advisory Expert Committee.

Dr. Cao Buyang

Dr. Buyang Cao is aprofessor and Ph. D student supervisor at College of Architecture and UrbanPlanning, Tongji University. He earned doctor degree in Operations Research.Before he joined Tongji University, he had been with Esri, Inc., the worldlargest GIS service/product provider, for decades. Dr. Cao led and was involvedin multiple national key projects and designing/developing application systemsfor Fortune 500 enterprises. 

He possesses multi-year experiences in problem analysis, algorithm design/development, software engineering project management, etc. He was awarded by INFORMS (Institute for Operations and Management Science) due to his excellence in applying optimization techniques for solving complicated decision support problems from the real world. Numerous research papers by Dr. Cao were published  in some top-tier international journals.

Currently, his research is focusing on applying AI, big data, data analytical, and algorithm development technologies to the problems from Smart City and Logistics arenas.

Dr. Zhou Xingang

Dr. Zhou Xingang is an assistant professor and master student supervisor at College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Tongji University. He earned doctor degree and worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Urban Planning at the Department of Urban Planning and Design of the University of Hong Kong. He has published many papers in international top SSCI journals such as Environment and Planning B and Journal of Transport Geography. He is the principle investigator of several research projects including the National Natural Science Funding of China. His research interests include the application of GIS in urban planning. He is also interested in applying big data in urban planning and transport planning.
